Star Jasmine Diamonds!

I have decided to put a Star Jasmine over our neighbours garage wall.
It will eventually look like this... (image from Polyvore)

star jasmine growing on wall trellis
Preparing the wall
This wall is 11m long x 3 m tall!
My neighbour Denise and I repainted the wall together which was fantastic fun and fabulous bonding time!  It was so so lovely of her to help me!  We are blessed with fabulous neighbours!

Zenith Hanging Accessory - Screw Eye 114mm - Zinc Plated (purchased from Bunnings)
Galvanised Wire attached.

Star Jasmine planted at every ground point.

So if you come around and can't find me I will be trimming the star jasmine to make sure it stays in those diamonds!

Inspiration was found in these pictures and articles....

I think I might spend a lot of time pruning to keep the vine under control!

How have you made an ugly wall pretty??

Cushion Love Love Love.....

I had these floor cushions made and am just thrilled by the result!
What do you think?

For those interested the picture behind is our wedding album!  We look at it all the time.  Our fabulous photographer Simon James composed the collage and then it was printed onto one sheet and mounted on the most amazing piece of MDF you have ever seen.... (it looks like honeycomb on the reverse side).. it has a UV coating to guard against fading....
We LOVE IT!

Queen.....

It was fabulous to have the Queen in Brissy town.  Many kids from our school went down to the river to see her sail on by... unfortunately all the younger kids could see was Anna Bligh in her red suit, but it  was an experience for them anyway.

They love doing the royal wave just like the HRH is doing here.....

Relish the thought...

I love Relish! I have been saving jars to make my mum's beautiful spicy relish, and whilst I do this, I have also been trying all the store bought relishes to see if one measures up!

OMG... I found it.... would you believe, Huey's Hamburger Relish!  It is just like mums... hers is slightly chunkier, but I am happy to settle for his!  Thanks Huey!

Mmmm Sourdough, Cheddar Cheese (look like chips don't they...), Gherkins and Relish.....YUM!!!
No... I am not pregnant!

What are you having for lunch today?

Halloween Preparations.....

My Father in law turned up for dinner tonight with a Halloween Pumkin for us!  He had already carved it into this fantastic artwork!

What are you doing for Halloween???

Oh my, Oh my.... did you know that on October 23rd there is a Brisbane Zombie Walk... aiming to raise $10,000 for the Brain Foundation of Australia.... little freaky, but sounds like fun... we won't be doing it as it clashes with our street Halloween party!

Deer oh Deer...

I may be losing it!
I have long had an obsession with the Ski lodge look of a Deer Head mounted on a wall... of course a fake one, or an antique - not one just shot... heaven help me...

Anyway, I think I am now over it.... but I found some novel and interesting things on my quest to explore them....

Note: I have left out the Taxidermy links, which totally grossed me out!

I quite like this last print and could be the answer to my dreams.

Blue and White

Here are some pics of the Blue and White love from a recent trip to Peter Baker Finch in Brissy.... they explained that they keep as much in stock as they can as it is always popular and many of the factories that have manufactured it for years in China are closing down.  Hopefully they and many other stores continue to stock it for all you blue and white addicts out there.....

Enjoy....

(Sorry about the poor quality pics, but I only had my I-Phone 3 on me.....)

Shopping today at French and English in the Valley I found these two gorgeous outdoor tables.  The bottom one can also come with a marble top.  The chairs are outdoor ones, so no need to bring them inside all the time!

Lychee Granita - Gingerbabe Style!

After searching the whole of Brisbane, I came to the realisation that what I knew was actually true - Lychees are not in season!.... So to deliver on my promise (and craving) of a Lychee Granita I headed for the cans!

The result: STUNNING!  A definite crowd pleaser and looked FAB in my new Moroccan Tea Glasses!!

(don't be fooled by mint in picture...
it just looked good
...this recipe does not contain mint!)

Recipe:

- 2 Cans of Lychees - reserve appox 200ml of liquid
- Juice of 1/2 a Lime

Blend the Lychees, liquid and lime juice until well combined.
Strain, make sure you push as much pulp through the strainer as you can... this is your flavour!

Put in a dish (large enough so it is only 3-4 cm deep) and freeze.

Fork frozen sides into centre every 1/2 hour until it is fully frozen, (approx 2-3 hours) then you will probably be able to leave it to refresh when serving. If you have an ice cream shelf in your freezer as I do, it will stay forked and fluffy for days without fully freezing!

The flavour seems to develop as it freezes and every time you fork it over it tastes better and better!!

Next time I might ad some vodka to the mix or even some Gin.... Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Enjoy!

Lychee Granita

I am having a dinner party tonight and have been searching for something to serve in the divine Moroccan Tea Glasses I purchased...... and thought up Lychee Granita as a pallet cleanser.... of course a quick google provided this.... by Seasaltwithfood... love it....(I will report back post dinner party to show you how it worked!)...

Lychee Granita
Ingredients
500g Fresh Lychee
300 ml Water
6-8 Tbsp Sugar
1 tsp Lime or Lemon Juice

Method
Peel the lychee and remove the pits. Blend lychee, water, sugar and lime juice until completely smooth. Press the mixture through a mesh strainer.

To freeze granita, pour the mixture into the dish and place in the freezer. Begin checking it after about 1 hour. Once it begins to freeze around the edges, take a fork and stir the mixture, breaking up the frozen parts near the edges into smaller chunks and raking them toward the center.

Return the dish to the freezer, then check the mixture every 30 minutes afterward, stirring each time and breaking up any large chunks into small pieces with a fork, until you have a beautiful, fine crystals of homemade granita. If any time the granita freezes too hard, simply leave it out at room temperature for a few minutes until it softens enough to be stirred again with a fork, and rake it back into crystals. Then return it to the freezer.
